Selling
Track your ads with Google and Meta
Connect your Google tag and Meta Pixel so your ads know who visited and who bought.
If you run ads on Google, Facebook or Instagram, those platforms work better when they can see what happens after someone taps your ad: did they look at a product, add it to their basket, buy it? Paste your IDs into your shop and it tells them. Every plan includes it.
Where to put them
In your dashboard, open Marketing, then Ad tracking. There are two boxes, one for Google and one for Meta. Fill in one or both, then tap Save changes. Leave a box empty to turn that one off.
Finding your Google tag ID
For Google Analytics: open Admin, then Data streams, and pick your website. The Measurement ID starts with G-.
For Google Ads: open Tools, then Google tag. The tag ID starts with AW-.
If you use Google Tag Manager, paste your container ID instead. It starts with GTM-.
Finding your Meta Pixel ID
Open Meta Events Manager, then Data sources, and pick your pixel. The Pixel ID is the long number under its name, 15 or 16 digits.
What your shop reports
Page views: every page a visitor opens.
Product views: when someone opens a product.
Add to cart: when something goes in the basket, with how many.
Checkout started: when someone taps Pay.
Purchase: when an order is paid, with what was bought and the total.
Prices are sent in naira. A purchase is only reported once Paystack has confirmed the payment, and only once per order, so refreshing the confirmation page never counts a sale twice. Failed or unfinished payments are never reported as purchases.
If you use Google Tag Manager
Your shop loads your container and sends each event to it under Google's standard names: page_view, view_item, add_to_cart, begin_checkout and purchase. Set up your own tags and triggers for them in Tag Manager. Your container's own page view trigger covers the first page someone opens; use the page_view event for the pages they move to after that.
Checking it works
Install Meta Pixel Helper or Google Tag Assistant in Chrome, open your shop, and browse as a shopper would. Each event shows up as it happens.
Good to know
Your IDs only run on your shop. They never load on your dashboard or on anyone else's shop.
Ad blockers stop these scripts on some phones. That is normal for every website, and your shop works the same either way.
